Music Monday #4 - RED !

"Red might be about flirting with danger" a music critic wrote.

[Complete song list, lyrics, comments and links]

This is the 4th studio album released by one of my favorite artists, Taylor Swift, today, on the 22nd.

Story behind the name, in Taylor's words :
"All the different emotions that are written about on this album are all pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I've experienced in the last two years. All those emotions — spanning from intense love, intense frustration, jealousy, confusion, all of that — in my mind, all those emotions are red. You know, there’s nothing in between. There’s nothing beige about any of those feelings."

*********

1. State Of Grace

"So you were never a saint.I love the shades of wrong. We learn to live with the pain.Mostly of broken hearts. But this love is great and wild."

It is definitely not the very country-y music that has been associated with Taylor Swift. It is powerful and the guitar and her voice do not disappoint. This IS a state of grace!

I personally really liked the song. It is powerful, it makes you want to do things, the lyrics stand out.. What a way to start off the album!

2. Red

"Losing him was blue like I’d never knownMissing him was dark grey all aloneForgetting him was like trying to know somebody you've never metBut loving him was redOh red burning red"
Red received mixed reviews from critics. While some liked it, some said it was just another song by America's favorite cougar (gags).
The song is a little repetitive. It was stuck in my head for days after I heard it, but it lacks the usual lyrical punch from Taylor. Addictive and good all the same though.
3. Treacherous
"Put your lips close to mine
As long as they don't touch
Out of focus out of eye
Till the gravity is too much
And ill do anything you say
If you say it with your hands
And i'd be smart to walk away but you're quick sand"

The music reminded me of 'You Belong With Me' a little.
I like the lyrics. It's pretty, it's cute. It's slow and I like it!

4. I Knew You Were Trouble
"I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now.Flew me to places I've never been,Till you put me down oh .."
I really like the lyrics to this song. I love the way she puts the whole feeling into such beautiful words. LOVE IT!
About the song, Taylor said : "being frustrated with yourself because here you are heartbroken and you knew when you first saw that person, you saw all these red flags and you just went for it anyway, so shame on me."
5. All Too Well
"The autumn leaves falling down,Like pieces in their place. And I can picture it after all these days. And I know it's long gone, and the magic's here no more,And it might be okay,But I'm not fine at all!"
The country girl shines through this song. The guitar, the way she's singing, the lyrics. Sometimes remembering things all too well is why we are sad. And broken!
6. 22
"It seems like one of those nights

This place is too crowded too many cool kids
It seems like one of those nights
We ditch the whole scene and end up dreaming instead of sleeping
Yeaaaah
We're happy free confused and lonely in the best way
It's miserable and magical oh yeah
Tonight's the night when we forget about the heartbreaks, it's time uh uh"

It has this pop-y rhythm and feel to it. I especially like the hispters line! :D
7. I Almost Do
"And I just want to tell you
It takes everything in me not to call you
And I wish I could run to you
And I hope you know that
Everytime I don't,
I almost do, I almost do"

We all have that one person we always want to message/call but should not. And sometimes you just don't want to be the one who's always taking the first step, and you sit up all night wondering if they think about you.. Maybe they do, maybe they don't ...
8. WANEGBT
This is that song you can dance to, or sing along with your friends.
It has been co written, maybe that's why the lyrics are so repetitive and this is probably not one of her most genius-y or lyrically exceptional songs.
But it is addictive and I like the rhythm and the tune! I also find the video very cute.
And the fact that she is finally saying NO.
9. Stay Stay Stay
"I think that it's best if we both stay"
It's so honest. About how he's the guy helping her carry the groceries, making her laugh, unlike the previous ones who used to remove her problems out on her.
About how she's loving him because he loves her even when she's mad. Because he never left.

10. The Last Time (Taylor ft Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol)
"This is the last time I'm asking you this,Put my name on the top of your list .. "
The lyrics are brilliant. Although this was a very shoddy/blurry basically crap version of the song, I still like it a lot. And I'm looking forward to listening to the original file. It's sad, it's beautiful! From 3:25-3:30 , I LOVE THAT!
11. Holy Ground
"Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress,
We had this big wide city all to ourselves.
We blocked the noise with the sound of 'I need you',
And for the first time I had something to lose,
Well I guess we fell apart in the usual way.
And the story's got dust on every page,
Sometimes I wonder how you think about it now.
And I see your face in every crowd."

I like the chorus. I like the way she sings these words. I like the words. I love the feeling.
"I don't want to dance if I'm not dancing with you" </3

12. Sad Beautiful Tragic
"Long handwritten note, deep in your pocket
Words, how little they mean, when they're a little too late"

THIS SONG IS THE SHIZZ!I love the lyrics. Like legit love. I love her haunting sad voice. I hate the way she sounds sad, but I love because only she sounds that beautiful while singing such a breaking song. The title puts it perfectly!
13. The Lucky One
"They say you bought a bunch of land somewhere,
Chose the Rose Garden over Madison Square,
And it took some time, but I understand it now."

This song gives me goosebumps. When you read the lyrics, and you realize what is gossip to us, is their lives. How lucky, fame and being a celebrity is not all that's it cracked up to be.

I love this song, it's honest, inspiring, brilliantly written and sung. WOW.

"And all my walls stood tall painted blue
But i'll take them down, take them down and open up the door for you"

I am having a mega fangirling attack now *breathes in and out*
Okayy, so their voices separately are beautiful and glorious.
Together, they sound wonderful!

"All I know is we said hello
So dust off your highest hopes
All I know is pouring rain
And everything has changed
All I know is a newfound brightness
All my days, i'll know your face
All I know since yesterday is everything has changed"

"The whole place, was dressed to the nines,
And we were dancing, dancing,
Like we're made of starlight, starlight"

*It's about Bobby and Ethel Kennedy, Connor's grandparents. She even says "I met Bobby on the boardwalk, summer of '45." Unless Connor and Taylor are actually 67 years old, it's not about either of them. And the line "have ten kids and teach them how to dream" ... they had 11 kids. *

It's beautiful. And peppy. And flipping adorable!

16. Begin Again

"I've been spending the last 8 months thinking all love ever does,
is break and burn, and end.
But on a Wednesday, in a cafe, I watched it begin again!"

This song is brilliantly written and sung, and the feels! I love the words, I love how she sings 'break, and burn, and end' and this reminds me of Mine.
Of how sometimes when you give up, something makes you hold on, even after you're convinced that it's all done and you don't want to bother with it anymore.

Thank you Taylor, for creating this song. Such a gorgeous way to end this album, on a positive note!

My favorites are song no 1, 4, 12 and 16.
I like ALL of the songs on here, but I love these 4.

Thank you Taylor, for making music that inspires me.
You somehow always express feelings better than anyone I've heard or read.
You're freaking amazing and you've made me fall in love with RED.

Listen to these tracks, and watch it begin again ;)

xx
